In the fall of 2003, Yale University launched its first television station. In the summer of 2003, I was roommates with Andrew Williams, a Yale student who was part of the effort to get the station up and running. At that time they were still looking for a "YTV" logo and he asked if I could take a shot at it.

The early concepts incorporated elements of a collegiate style font with a TV test pattern, which we both agreed wasn't working. I talked to Andrew about what it was like attending Yale, and he mentioned that the campus was dominated by pseudo-Gothic architecture that was built in the early 20th century. One of the deans actually had acid poured on some of the buildings to hurry up the aging process. Thinking this was hilarious, I used the architecture as my inspiration to design the final logo which is now in use by the station.
