Don Lehman

Hi there.
I am a designer. I like to make things.
Products are my focus, but I find myself continuously exploring other media. Websites, packaging, conferences, blogs, videos, & branding are all fair game and enrich my product design work.

Autoseal is the world's first truly 100% spill proof travel mug. Push the button to sip, release to seal. The dual wall, vacuum sealed body is constructed of 18/10 stainless steel to keep coffee hot for up to 4 hours and cold beverages cold for 12 hours. Autoseal received a 2007 Business Week / IDEA Bronze award for design excellence in the consumer product category.

This paper shredder is positioned at home users focused on personal identity protection. Designed to be small enough to sit on a kitchen counter top, it has the power of a 20 sheet shredder and devours unopened junk mail, credit cards, CDs, DVDs, staples, and paper clips with ease.

Contigo’s Fusion technology joins the durability and strength of stainless steel with the beauty of ceramic. The patented manufacturing process insures a beautiful mug with exceptional durability and dishwasher safety.

The project brief was to redefine Magellan’s trail GPS brand language while introducing new functionality to the marketplace including: digital camera, mp3 player, microphone, and touchscreen. The result is an IPX7 rated weatherproof unit that looks equally at home in the mountains as it does mounted to the dash of a Land Rover. Triton received a 2008 CES Innovation award in the personal electronics category.

The Skooba Satchel was designed to appeal to professionals who wanted a youthful and modern laptop bag but also wanted to be taken seriously in the workplace. With its rugged good looks, Air Square protection system, and common sense organization features, the Satchel is still a major hit for RoadWired (now known as Skooba Design) five years after its introduction.

Thought at Work was an industrial design student conference that was conceived of, designed, and launched in just six months. The world class lineup of speakers included: Yves Behar (fuseproject), John Christakos (Blu Dot), Stephanie Elias (Leapfrog), Chris Lenart (newdealdesign), Alan Mudd (Design Continuum), Steve Portigal (Portigal Consulting), Virginia Postrel (author of The Substance of Style), Duane Smith & Stéfane Barbeau (Vessel), Cameron Sinclair (Architecture for Humanity), and Claude Zellweger (One & Co.)

Thought at Work was a massive success: Over 200 students from 11 different design schools attended and it was featured in I.D. Magazine.

The Vika website needed to introduce the world to the Vika brand as well as show off its first product, the Twofold: a workbench that could also be used as a scaffold. Because the product was so unique in the marketplace, the UI design had to do the job of a Billy Mays type pitchman. Product animations, clear diagrams, and situational usage models were used to help tell the story.

The Ignite USA website showcases the breadth of Ignite’s business and industry experience, while maintaining a cohesive look and feel. This project was a complete overhaul from the previous version and included everything from concept, to user interface, and coding work.
